Louise Hawson


Louise is Director of Sustainable Balance, a specialist sustainability consultancy based in the UK. She has more than 20 years’ experience of working with organisations to deliver sustainable value by integrating the principles of sustainability into management and policy.

Her current work focuses on development and management of sustainable sourcing programmes for agricultural ingredients and supply chains, including policy development, risk assessment and management programmes for individual ingredients. She has worked with leading brands in the food and agriculture sector including Coca-Cola, Tate & Lyle plc, Kerry and APP Indonesia and with companies from other sectors including Johnson Matthey, Richemont and Reckitt Benckiser.

Louise is also an experienced auditor and expert assurance advisor, with particular interest in role of audits in delivering continuous improvement. She has developed audit protocols, guidance and rating systems for second and third-party audit programmes, including company-owned and external standards. She leads audit teams for sustainability report assurance programmes using ISAE3000, AA1000AS and GRI Standards. She is a lead external assurer for AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard, and has been a lead trainer on the international CSAP course in Corporate Responsibility, Stakeholder Engagement and Sustainability Assurance.

She is currently technical advisor to the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform’s FSA Third Party Verification and Audit programme, combining her audit and sustainable agricultural supply chain expertise.
Louise is also a keen runner and climber, and chairs the Sustainability Working Group for the British Mountaineering Council.
