Tom spent over fifteen years in the IT services industry before moving into sustainability with Paia via a Master’s in Sustainable Development. His background includes assurance and advisory work with the Big 4, and internal audit, compliance and risk management experience with a large IT services provider. Much of Tom’s experience has been focused on data centre infrastructure and security controls, particularly while managing third-party audits for regulatory and financial reporting purposes.
After leaving the world of IT, Tom’s return to university helped turn a passion for sustainability into a career. Areas of focus included sustainable supply chain management, innovation studies, and market-based solutions for sustainable development. Where possible, Tom concentrated his research and writing on Southeast Asia, where he has spent most of his life.
A desire to help with the issue of ocean plastic pollution has seen Tom participating in beach clean-ups and regularly volunteering at The Plastic Project – a Singapore-based non-profit focusing on turning plastic waste into useful items.
